ABOUT THE PROJECT
"Let's talk, it's about time" (Sar Waet El Haki, in Arabic), is a Lebanese play written and performed by filmmaker Philippe Aractingi and directed by Lina Abyad. In this autobiographical show, Aractingi reflects on his struggle to express himself through different artistic languages, tackling background themes like identity, multilingualism and exile.
The play is enhanced by video projections on background screens, as well as sound and music cues.
The protagonist's monologue is divided in 7 chapters, each one announced by a title. There also are two quotes that he evokes throughout the show, and that are displayed on screen.
The key point was to think the design as an organic presence behind the comedian, that molds the storyline in an efficient way.
It is important to mention that the design has been made to be read from the right to the left – as the play was originally conceived in Arabic – while still playing around with the words' placement, in accordance with one of the play's key themes : multilingualism.
